Results Only Work Environment

A Results Only Work Environment (ROWE) is a human resource management strategy wherein employees are paid for results (output) rather than the number of hours worked.

  • Need an average of what is reasonably achievable in a given amount of time in order to ensure you aren’t asking too much or too little
  • Hard to coordinate if no one is around and they are working weird hours
  • May incentivize people to work all the time to max out the results (a race to the top/bottom) which could lead to burn out
