Best Vegan Cheese Sauce

I just do this by eye so all quantities are estimates…


  • 1/4 cup tapioca flour (this is what makes it stretch and stringy)
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter
  • 1 cup non-dairy milk
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp bouillon or stock cube
  • Splash of liquid smoke
  • Salt/pepper to taste


  1. Make a roux with the tapioca flour and vegan butter.
  2. Slowly and the non-dairy milk and stir until it thickens
  3. Add the other ingredients and stir.
